STATEMENT OF FAITH

Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And they continued steadfastly in the Apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in prayers

- Acts 2:42

Statement of Faith, Character, Belief

and Ordinances of Calvary Chapel La Verne

  1. We believe that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three distinct persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in nature, power, and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

  2. We believe that the Scriptures consisting of the Old and New Testament are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and are the infallible rule of faith and practice. The Word of God is the foundation upon which this church operates and is the basis for which this church is governed. We believe that the Word of God supersedes any and all earthly law(s) that are contrary to the Holy Scriptures.

  3. We believe in GOD THE FATHER, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

  4. We believe in JESUS CHRIST, God’s only begotten Son, fully God and fully human, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, and perpetual intercession for His people, and His personal, visible return to earth.

  5. We believe in the HOLY SPIRIT who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to indwell, sanctify, seal, and empower all who believe in Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher, Comforter and Guide. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

  6. We believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice and therefore, are under condemnation; that God imparts life by the Holy Spirit, to those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord; and believe that God raised Him from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion. Salvation is by grace through faith alone, not by works. That Jesus Christ baptizes the seeking believer with the Holy Spirit and empowers them for service, often times subsequent to regeneration.

  7. We believe in the universal church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all born again persons are members.

  8. We believe that the Lord Jesus committed two ordinances to the church: 1. Baptism and 2. the Lord’s Supper. We believe in baptism by immersion and communion open to all true believers in Christ.

  9. We believe in the LAYING ON OF HANDS for the baptism with the Holy Spirit, for ordination of Pastors, Elders, Deacons and for receiving the Gifts of the Spirit.

  10. We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still in operation today and should be exercised within the guidelines found in the Scriptures, decently and in order. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace and that the gifts are distributed by the sovereign will of the Holy Spirit to whom He chooses.

  11. We believe that the nation of Israel has a special place in God's plan, and that all promises of God to Israel will be fulfilled both now and in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ or in His millennium.

  12. We believe in the personal, visible, bodily return of Christ to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous and endless suffering of the wicked in the Lake of Fire.

  13. We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord, while those who reject God’s free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from theLord.

  14. We believe in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church where all believers will meet the Lord in the air and be taken out of this world prior to the Tribulation that will come upon the earth.

  15. We believe in what is termed “The Apostles Creed” as embodying fundamental facts of the Christian Faith.

  16. We believe in the creation and God as the Creator. We believe that God created man and that He created them male and female. As such He created them different so as to complement and complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family unit and the basic structure of human society.

  17. We believe that marriage is exclusively the legal union of one genetic male and one genetic female sanctioned by the state and evidenced by a marriage ceremony. We also believe that legitimate Biblical sexual relations are exercised solely within the marriage union.
